What is concealed by thermal noises
Speaker: Prof. Renbao Liu, Department of Physics, CUHK

Abstract: Spin echo developed for magnetic resonance spectroscopy can remove the effects of thermal noises on spin decoherence. In this talk, I will discuss several surprising effects of quantum fluctuations on a spin qubit in a quantum spin bath, including the incommensurate recovery, anomalous decoherence effect, and quantum criticality at infinite temperature.

Biography: Prof. Liu is currently an Associate Professor in Department of Physics and the Head of Division of Physics and Division of Materials Science and Engineering in CUHK. He obtained his PhD from Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy Sciences. His research interests as follows:
- Physics for implementing quantum computation in solid-state systems
- Spin dynamics in semiconductors; electron spin decoherence in nuclear spin baths
- Quantum optics and nonlinear optical spectroscopy of mesoscopic systems
- Magnetic nanometrology, magnetic resonance spectroscopy
